Ooma - No More Monthly Phone Fees

I was finally able to get rid of our monthly home phone bill when I got the ooma Core VoIP Phone System 4 months ago. I first found this at the beginning of 2009 but wasn't able to get it til just recently. It is a bit expensive at $214.95 (I got it for $220) but if you divide that up by 12 months, it breaks down to $17.91 a month and I was paying over $35/month for VoIP phone service so already I'm saving money.
I actually only spent about $60 out of pocket for the system because I had $50 in amazon certificates from Swagbucks and another $100 in amazon certificates I had received from my job months earlier.

So how does it work? Just like any other VoIP service, it connects to your high speed internet service. You can use any regular cordless or corded phone. If you already have VoIP service, you'll have no problem using this system.

Setup was very simple but it took me 15 minutes longer to get it setup correctly because I had to keep my former setup active until my phone # was ported over to Ooma's service. Having my # ported over did cost an extra $40.

I've had it for 4 months now and I love it. The calls are just as clear as the other VoIP service I paid over $35 monthly for. The "Hub" (the box that hooks up to the internet modem) as it's called also acts as an answering machine where I can hit the play button and it will play the messages like the old style answering machine. It is still a voicemail box but the hub is one way you can listen to your messages. You can also play your messages online or have it sent to your email as an attachment (this feature is only available through the paid Premier service).

The features that come with this includes:
caller-id (if you have a phone with caller-id display)
call waiting
voicemail
free calling in the US
free calls to other Ooma users anywhere in the world

I just wanted to share my opinion and review of this because I like to read consumer reviews before I purchase something, especially something as pricey as this.

So for those of you that still want/need a home phone, I highly recommend Ooma.

I bought mine when AT&T shut down their VOIP service this summer, and I've been quite happy as well.
